“That is exactly why we’re here — they can come in and borrow thousands of toys,” she said.”They take them home and if their children really love them they can keep them for a couple of weeks.”If they don’t like them they bring them back and swap them.”‘Kids don’t get bored’Toy Libraries Australia is the not-for-profit peak body for more than 280 community-run toy libraries around the country. One of its two paid staff members, Sharna Ellington, said toy libraries were committed to reducing environmental waste while promoting learning through play.”Toy library members are able to borrow age-appropriate toys for their children instead of buying them and then throwing them away when their kids outgrow them,” she said. “There’s always a high rotation of toys available so kids don’t get bored with them either.”She said toy libraries were also a great way for parents to engage with others with similar values.”You’ll find most toy library members are environmentally focused, which is why they prefer to borrow rather than buy.”Four decades of borrowingIn 2018 the Darwin Toy Library will celebrate 40 years of service to the community. And against all the odds, one toy has stood the test of time.”These U-shaped cushions which were used for children with additional needs to make tunnels were bought in 1978,” Ms Czoloszynski said. Almost every parent knows the frustration of buying their child a toy and seeing it fall out of favour and tossed to the side within a matter of weeks, if not hours.Whether they are broken, old or no longer wanted, many of these so-called plastic treasures end up in landfill.Unless, that is, they find their way to your local toy library.Donations from families who no longer want or need their toys account for nearly half of the 4,300 toys found at the Darwin Toy Library.Library director Frances Czoloszynski said for more than 400 members the toy library was a means of reducing the amount of plastic in their lives. (ABC Radio Darwin: Mark Rigby)
“They’ve seen better days but we have a gentleman who comes and recovers things.”Among the other toys on the shelves are push carts from the 1980s, pretend vacuum cleaners from the ’90s, and myriad other toys that have undergone repairs throughout the years.”I hate throwing things out, I always try to revamp,” Ms Czoloszynski laughed. Teen’s journey from the outback to New York catwalk

Remote fashion festival drives social change
She’s got a very good sense of humour, very outgoing — she gets that from her father,” she said. “My family is very supportive, and they’re very happy for me no matter how I do, and they’re doing the best they can to help me achieve my dream.”Ms Grace said her daughter had always been an extrovert. Photo:
Aspiring model and Year 10 student Chloe Grace in her school uniform at John Paul College. “For someone like Chloe who is looking to progress in a career in modelling, [New York] allows her a chance to communicate with other models and agencies and scout out who to talk to.” Former model takes teen under her wing Former London-based model Fifi Robinson began working with Chloe when she was 13. “Holly and I both grew up in Kalgoorlie and we’ve started a fashion label here in the heart of the desert which is going to be showcasing at New York Fashion Week.”New York is definitely the hub of fashion, and Paris is on the agenda for us as well. She has also been named a finalist in the 13- to 18-year-old category for Miss Fashion Week Australia, with the finals to be held in Melbourne in October. (ABC Goldfields-Esperance: Jarrod Lucas)
The label’s growth continues the creative industry boom in the WA mining town, which is better known for its blokey image.Ms Mckenzie said the regional designer was punching above its weight, having showcased at London Fashion Week earlier this year.”I think the mentality where you need to leave the country to achieve anything is just wrong,” Ms Mckenzie said. It’s a scary thought I’ll be going to New York … I still can’t believe it,” Chloe said. (ABC Goldfields-Esperance: Jarrod Lucas)
Ms Robinson, who has a young daughter, said she understood parental concerns about children wanting a modelling career. She said the New York trip was the opportunity of a lifetime for Chloe. It’s a huge thing for a young girl to take in, let alone an adult,” she said. Photo:

“I was nervous before the Bel Cappello catwalk, but I guess going to New York will be a lot more nerve-wracking … I also can’t wait.” The Year 10 student is the daughter of Kalgoorlie electrician and horse trainer Ashley Grace, who is heading to New York with Chloe’s mother Serena and 17-year-old brother Ben. “It’s just so exciting and I just tell her ‘Go for it’. “She’s been walking up and down our hallway since she was about three or four in my heels, so she’s a born model I think. In that time, Chloe has been published in five magazines, including W Magazine. Chloe said their presence would calm her nerves.”Whenever I go to Perth I’m like ‘Whoa, look at all these shops’. The red dirt and goldmines of her hometown are a world away from the glitz and glamour of New York Fashion Week, but teenager Chloe Grace will take a bit of home with her when she walks the catwalk later this year. The 15-year-old, who has never left Australia, has been plucked from relative obscurity to model for Kalgoorlie fashion label Bel Cappello, which will make its American debut in September.”I don’t have a passport.

Video: Team Apollo put their robot to the test

(ABC Radio Sydney: Amanda Hoh)
One of the major challenges for Team Apollo in the lead-up to the Denmark competition was finding a time for all the students to meet together given they do not have the structured school environment.Since receiving the wildcard, the team met once a week in Ms Melville’s garage, where, due to space, they had to reconstruct and reset their practice board each time.”There are some benefits but there are definitely some limitations,” Ms Melville said.”The kids like to point out that they are homeschoolers and that they’re oddballs — that’s what they’ve called their robot. (ABC Radio Sydney: Amanda Hoh)
There are three parts to the competition; robot games, a research project and core team values. The latter is one Team Apollo feel they will definitely score well in having created a team chant to show their camaraderie while each pair competes.”I don’t think we’re going to win, because there’s crazy good teams over there, but we’re giving it our best shot,” Simeon Harris, the team’s strategic analyst, said.”We’re going into a competition where everyone is your friend and you’re not really going very hard, just doing your best.”It’s a friendly competition.”Team Apollo’s research project, which had to be related to this year’s theme Animal Allies, is about animal communications and what native Australian animals can tell us about the weather. They found out, for example, that local Aboriginal people would know when a cold spell was going to hit when dingoes made a circular pack around the tribesmen.Homeschool advantageManager Angie Melville first formed a homeschool team to compete in the Lego League after her daughter showed an interest in learning how to program.Ten students signed up in their first season, while their second season last year comprised two teams of seven. Photo:
The team wear their self-proclaimed “oddball” status with pride. Photo:
More than 40 countries will be represented at the competition. “They’re kind of proud that they’re not the standard, neat and tidy line-up in two lines [kind of students].”The team leaves for Denmark today and the three-day competition starts on May 25. Photo:
The students get treated to a trip to the original Legoland in Billund, Denmark. A team of homeschooled students from the New South Wales Central Coast will this week travel overseas, most of them for the first time, to compete in an international Lego robotics competition. The First Lego League this week will see about 100 teams from around the world, including five Australian teams, build and program a robot to complete tasks around an obstacle course resembling a farm yard. The championship is being hosted in the Danish city of Aarhus.Team Apollo, which scored a wildcard entry to the competition, have had just eight weeks to prepare while all other Australian teams were told in December after qualifying in a national competition. (ABC Radio Sydney: Amanda Hoh)
“We were really excited when we got the wildcard entry,” 12-year-old team coordinator Amelia Munday said.”We had to put the robot back together, reprogram the missions and just practise.”This will be my first time overseas, so I’m very excited, very nervous but it’s going to be fun.”Team Apollo is made up of seven students aged 10 to 13 years.Engineering robot missionsThe team has had to build their own Lego robot and pre-program it to complete missions around a yard determined by the tournament in two-and-a-half minutes. Some of those tasks include pushing a shark back into its habitat, turning a cow-milking turnstile, and picking up a pig and farmer to drop them in a pen.

“I think there needs to be more facilities like this when required and it’s a great reciprocal agreement,” she said.”Raising children, providing safe play spaces and being part of the community is what we’re about.” Photo:
The new playground faces out over Moreton Bay. A school playground north of Brisbane will be one of the first in the state to open its gates after hours to help build a stronger sense of community.Humpybong State School in Margate is offering local families the chance to use their playground equipment well after the 3:00pm bell has rung. But this isn’t any old playground. “In 2014 the president of the P&C knew the council had a need for a playground in the area,” she said.”At the same time, the school had a condemned [play] area due to the salt air conditions causing the equipment to rust and it cost us a lot to maintain.”He was forward thinking enough to bring the two together to get the ball rolling on the new playground.”Safety at the top of the list Each morning the school’s facility officer checks the playground before opening the gates for parents and children.Once the school bell rings at 9:00am, the external gate to the playground is locked off to the public.”We do this to make sure that everyone is safe,” Ms Kostaschuk said.”Then after school the internal gate is locked to the school and the external gate is opened so the community can come and play.”This allows everyone to use the facilities and it shows that schools are part of everything we do and that we’re all in this together.”Playing on the weekendSchool captain Zavier Fenwick said the new playground, also known as Sol’s Seaside Escape, had all the students excited.”My favourite part has been the giant triangle spider and we spend a lot of time here,” he said.”It’s good as we can use it on the weekend now too.”I think it’s been a great idea and it’s thrilling to have this new equipment.”Ms Kostaschuk said she hoped more schools and councils would take up the initiative.

Year eights from Bunbury Senior High School act out The Cow Tripped Over The Moon. The publishing industry is changing rapidly and data that appears robust tells us less than it once did, writes Nick Earls. “We do have some challenges in how we’re going to negotiate this exciting time in the future of libraries,” she said.Ms Summers said when story time sessions first began at libraries, seniors groups often complained about the noise from parents and children.”That was the first time we had, what I call, ‘The Great Clash’,” she said. (ABC South West: Michael Black) The stereotype of the shushing librarian has been shelved after a note from a disgruntled library patron in the south-west of WA sparked debate about the role of modern libraries. The angry note left by an anonymous library visitor read: “THE MOST LOUDEST LIBARY EVER BYE”.Librarians now defend the noise from young children, arguing public libraries have a significant role in child literacy and development. The CEO of the Australian Library and Information Association, Sue McKerracher, said the old-fashioned cliche of the shushing librarian was gone. She said training colleges were not looking for people who only liked being alone with books.”They’d say find another career,” Ms McKerracher said.”A librarian’s job is out there, in front, dealing with all kinds of people all day.”Now it is other patrons who are demanding quiet.Ms McKerracher said modern libraries had designated quiet times as well as story time. Some new libraries have developed plastic ‘cones of silence’ which hang from the ceiling to block out noise.”We really want people to be at home,” she said. “Now people other than young families and seniors have discovered this thing called a library.”Ms Summers recalled a morning when a variety of people came to use the library — a jobseeker, a mother, a senior and someone starting their own business.”There was a homeless guy who was waiting for the library to open because he just wanted to get out of the cold,” she said.As a demonstration of their new audio diversity, over 6,000 libraries across Australia held National Simultaneous Storytime at 11am on May 24.The event was started in Australia 17 years ago.Everyone from celebrities to high school students narrated The Cow Tripped Over the Moon by Tony Wilson to over 650,000 children.”We have to include everybody in our community in this fabulous thing called a library,” Ms Summers said. John Legend – Surefire

And you’re scared to love but it’s alright
Somewhere where good love conquers and not divide
Can you just stay through the night?
Make this our kingdom
Know that we’re surefire, yeah
And we’re scared to love but it’s alright
Know I won’t let the blue flame die
Know I won’t let the blue flame die
Oh it’s once, just once in a lifetime

I know that we’re surefire, yeah
We can’t lose hope just yet
Let me breathe you in ’til gravity bends
I’m so, I’m so, I’m so tired of fighting

Before your turn around
‘Cause it’s once, just once in a lifetime

The world is a nightmare
Wake up and stay here
I know that we’re surefire
‘Cause it’s once, just once in a lifetime
I know that we’re surefire
And oh my, oh my, oh my, oh my God
Let go, give in, let go and give up, oh
Let go, give in, let go and give up, oh
Somewhere where good love conquers and not divide
I may not know a lot of things but
We’ll make this our kingdom
I feel it in my chest
Turn down the bed and the blinds

I may not know a lot of things but
And we’re scared to love but it’s alright
I feel it in my chest
I may not know a lot of things but
Why don’t you turn around?
When something is cold as a goodbye
I may not know a lot of things but
I feel it in my chest
Know that we’re surefire
And we fall through the hole in the light
We can’t lose hope just yet
The devil wins this bet
Let me be on your side

If we just let the blue flame die
Know that we’re surefire
Ignore all that shit from the outside
And oh my, oh my, oh my, oh my God
Cause I may not know a lot of things but

I’m so, I’m so, I’m so tired of fighting
Can’t keep this bed warm on the left side
Can you just stay through the night?
I may not know a lot of things but

Amy Shark – Weekends

[Chorus]
[Chorus 3/Outro]

You switch from vodka, lime and soda
You’re coming around, you’re coming around
Only on weekends I have no room for anyone else, but you
And you know a lot about me, it’s more than I can stand
On weekends I have no room for anyone else, but you

Only on weekends we feel the love
[Chorus 2]
Only on weekends we feel the love
What your life might sound like
Only on weekends we feel the love
There’s a tiny little room for two
And I hate every girl that’s ever known ya
Only on weekends this happens to us

Only on weekends I have no room for anyone else, but you
I’m at my best, just even knowing
Only on weekends we feel the same
Only on weekends

Only on weekends is what we do
Only on weekends this happens to us
You ban me from sleeping pills and codeine
And it’s crystallised in my mind, that tiny little room
[Bridge]
Only on weekends this happens to us
And I took your number quicker than my next breath
Only on weekends
I call your house phone just to listen, to hear what your life might sound like
With you
Only on weekends I have no room for anyone else, but you
Only on weekends I have no room for anyone else, but you
For anyone else, but you
Only on weekends
There’s a place for us

And don’t you hate how
To much to the victory

When you find yourself back at the start
Take a breath and take heart instead of pulling apart

Every part of me
And when I ignite you’ll see
[Chorus]

[Verse 1]
Back to me
Maybe I can light the way
I’m moving ahead towards the way out (the way out)
And when I ignite you’ll see

When you can’t feel the difference between

As I feel the ground begin to crack now (to crack now)
Maybe I can light the way
No turning back now
Maybe I can light the way
[Chorus]
We get left behind
Maybe I can light the way
But with a new sound
And you told me you know where to start
[Bridge]
And when I ignite you’ll see
I won’t stand down

[Pre-Chorus]
Every part of me
I can light the way
So I cry out

Madchild – Count Down

Aye
That’s the closest way you’ll get to Mad’s imagination
I’m casting light into darkness
I am just a vicious serpent I spit hellfire.
Don’t trip
Aye

Madchild is the shit
Ok
Devil with bedazzler Star-spangled mangler.
This life is ride or die, I tightly hold onto the reins
Atomic violence, we have a calming pause in silence
Because he spits it like he’s trying crazy death-defying stunts
Darkness in the cave
In the mud full of blood
I am hot. I’m known for spitting blistering verses
Fire in my eyes and I am heavy like an elephant
Don’t want trouble here with me
Girls I fuck are half my age and I don’t need a facelift
Sharpen up my tool ’cause I’m a ghoul in your schoolyard
I’ve had the greatest fucking life and also had the worst
Rubble and debris
That’s what the fuck’s up
I’m casting light into darkness

General of BAX, but in a mental clinic

I’m the bent lieutenant

I’m a bit demented, paranoid and schizophrenic
[Verse 1]
I do this shit so I can make these other fucking rappers feel irrelevant
My blood is full of poison, it’s corroding out my veins
Ride like the wind, no remorse, horse and skeleton
Aye
[Hook] x2
Showing all of you the difference between mice and men
And got voices in my head, but now I’m shouting back
Countdown. Ten seconds to firing
Spit angelic elegance Far from delicate.
I’m trying to tell you, I’ve got one ferocious appetite
My moods, they constantly change just like a traffic light
Just for once in my life, can I have peace of mind?
Poetry is peculiar Killer is methodical.
[Verse 3]
9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Write with the harshness, take flight like a martian
Write with the harshness, take flight like a martian
Write with the harshness, take flight like a martian
Check my Mercedes, also turns into a spaceship

[Sample]
Fuck with me and end up on a list of missing persons

Short, broken teeth and got a terrible hairline
Hail the barbarian, he strikes again!
Fly like I’m American Airlines
[Verse 2]
Eventually I’m mentally insane, got no doubt of that
[Outro]
Mad’s an angry infant. Mad’s a mental patient
Hail the barbarian, he strikes again!
Aye
Traumatizing, homicidal, kamikaze pilot
Totally insane Totally insane.
You don’t want to see me going accidentally apeshit
I’m casting light into darkness
Aye
I’m Scarface sitting in a tub, "fly pelican"
I feel like no one understands me
Dukes of Hazzard spazzing while listening to Nazareth
You’re not on vacation, bitch
Aye
Keep grinding
Familiarize yourself with sounds of death and strangulation
Go!
It’s cold and I’m in pain
Hail the barbarian, he strikes again!
Listen to my twisted chirping My painting’s picture perfect.
You should see the thoughts that are exploding in my brain
I don’t do this shit just for the hell of it
I know they try to but I’m crazy and I’m always angry
I try to keep it to my chest, but I’m about to burst
Keep working

Showing all of you the difference between mice and men
Be the next to buy him lunch
[Hook] x2
Madchild’s back
I’m showing all of you the difference between mice and men
[Hook] x2
Saying shut the fuck up! Please be kind

Kid Ink – Nympho (Issues Remix)

Different positions all around the room
If you really wanna get freaky
We can do it anywhere like 1-12

So glad that you came through
I know I try to keep my cool but I’ma lose
Know just how to drop low-key
You remind me of my coupe
And no one rides me the way you do
You already know I don’t care
Just try me, ain’t nobody gonna come into this room
‘Cause I got issues and I wanna have sex every time that I see you
‘Cause I got issues and you got ’em too
I know I try to keep my cool but I’ma lose
Drop them panties down, and hop upon me
And you don’t judge me
And no one rides me the way you do
So give em all to me and I’ll give mine to you
And you don’t judge me
You’re perfect, your body’s perfect
Yeah, I got issues
I got a problem, I’m addicted (oh yeah)
And one of them is how bad I need you
So give ’em all to me and I’ll give mine to you

‘Cause I got issues, but you got ’em too
She got them moves, Janet Jackson with them moves
[Chorus: Kid Ink]
[Bridge: Kid Ink]
And one of them is how bad I need you
Different positions all around the room
[Chorus: Julia Michaels]
I see you working (oh yeah)

I’m fiending for it, I need a fix
Yeah, I got issues
[Chorus: Kid Ink]
Bring it back up, whine slow (ooh)
‘Cause if you did baby, I would judge you too
‘Cause we got the kind of love it takes to solve ’em
And one of them is how bad I need you
Bask in the glory, of all our problems
So give me all of yours and I’ll give mine to you
Still sitting in the valet
‘Cause I got issue and you got em too
You remind me of my coupe
Yeah, I got issues
[Verse 2: Kid Ink]

It ain’t a position you can’t do (hey)
Skip all of the foreplay
[Verse 1: Kid Ink]
‘Cause if you did baby, I would judge you too
‘Cause I got issues and I wanna have sex every time that I see you
I got room in the back seat

Kali Uchis – Tyrant (feat. Jorja Smith)

Your lovin’ is like a kaleidoscope
[Verse 2: Kali Uchis]
Your lovin’ is like a kaleidoscope
[Verse 1: Kali Uchis]

I don’t wanna come down
Mira, mira, míralo (míralo, míralo)
Keep spinnin’ me ’round and ’round
And ’round and ’round and ’round (around, around, around)
Would you be a tyrant
[Intro: Kali Uchis]

I don’t wanna come down
I don’t wanna come down
Your lovin’ is like a kaleidoscope
But what would you do with all that control
Baby dímelo
Wanna seize the throne

Boy you’re driving me crazy
But what would you do if I have control
We’re goin’ ’round and around and around, goin’ down, down
All around we go (all around, all around)

Although I say nothing can phase me
Dímelo, dímelo, dímelo
Keep spinnin’ me ’round and ’round
Word on the street, you got hoes
[Chorus: Kali Uchis]
[Outro: Kali Uchis]
All around we go (all around, all around)
In a world so violent
[Bridge: Kali Uchis]
Keep spinnin’ me ’round and ’round
Place the spark in my life back
And ’round and ’round and ’round (around, around, around)
And ’round and ’round and ’round
Now I want to show you how I thank that
Keep spinnin’ me ’round and ’round
Wanna seize the throne (I know you wanna, I know you wanna)

When everything is a riot
We’re goin’ ’round and around and around, goin’ down, down

If little old me would be yours

Don’t lose this, we have it all, all
I don’t wanna come down
The worlds been asking us to lose control
Would you take it out
All we ever do is French like Brigitte Bardot (Brigitte Bardot)
But what would you do if I have control
I can read your silence
And ’round and ’round and ’round (around, around, around)
Papi está rico, papi está guapo (papi está guapo)
If I gave you power
Baby dímelo
I don’t wanna come down
And ’round and ’round and ’round
Don’t think you can lie
I disappear like El Chapo
I can see through your mind
And ’round and ’round and ’round (around, around, around)
[Verse 3: Jorja Smith]
You’re my peace and quiet
Keep spinnin’ me ’round and ’round
Dímelo, dímelo, dímelo
[Chorus: Kali Uchis]
I don’t wanna come down

All I hear is sirens
‘Til you said you’d cut off the whole world
Wanna seize the throne (I know you wanna, I know you wanna)
Look me in my iris
[Chorus: Kali Uchis]
All around we go
Keep spinnin’ me ’round and ’round

Kacy Hill – Like A Woman

What makes you make me feel like a woman?
But falling in love never gave me grace

Oh What makes you make me feel like a woman?
What makes you make me feel like a woman?
[Verse 1]
How do you love?
How do you love?
Heart was in an empty space
I’m sayin’ things that I thought that I wouldn’t
[Chorus]
And now you cut me, remind me of my beatin’ heart

And now you cut me, remind me of my beatin’ heart
How do you love?
[Pre-Chorus]
How do you love?
Better to want you in retrograde

And now you cut me, remind me of my beatin’ heart
Oh What makes you make me feel like a woman?
And how do you love?
You bury me shamelessly
[Pre-Chorus]

I’m sayin’ things that I thought that I wouldn’t
Speak to me incredibly
I’ll be your Venus if you were my Mars, yeah
And leave me to want inescapably

What makes you make me feel like a woman?
[Verse 2]
How do you love?
[Chorus]
What makes you make me feel like a woman?
[Instrumental Bridge & Harmonization]
I’ll be your Venus if you were my Mars, yeah

I’ll be your Venus if you were my Mars, yeah

Unfolding my arms until I’m in the deep
And how do you love?
Spendin’ all my time away
[Chorus]
I’m sayin’ things that I thought that I wouldn’t
How do you love?

Salvador Sobral – Amar Pelos Dois (At The 2017 Eurovision Song Contest) (Live)

Antes de ti, só existi
Meu bem, ouve as minhas preces
Peço que regresses, que me voltes a querer
Sem fazer planos do que virá depois
Talvez devagarinho, possas voltar a aprender
Diz que vivi para te amar
Não sentir paixão, não quiser sofrer
Se o teu coração não quiser ceder
[Verse 2]
Meu bem, ouve as minhas preces
Se um dia alguém, perguntar por mim

O meu coração, pode amar pelos dois
[Chorus]
[Verse 1]
Eu sei, que não se ama sozinho
Talvez devagarinho, possas voltar a aprender
Eu sei, que não se ama sozinho
Cansado e sem nada para dar
Peço que regresses, que me voltes a querer
